What is the svidcap file? How do I rename clips? Plus running timecode pauses?

1. I just started a new Vegas project and captured a clip. I was then prompted to save a .svidcap file. What is the .svidcap file? What does it do?

2. I've imported a bunch of clips but now want to rename them to something closer to their actual content (i.e. "man running" instead of "tape #1 clip 001") How do I change the name of the clips? Does this affect the actual captured clip?

3. For some reason when I'm capturing video my timecode pauses every few seconds instead of a smooth running timecode. Why does it do this? I'm not dropping any frames, but th timecode pauses.

1.If you use batch capture, saving the sfvidcap file will enable you to recapture the same list of clips in the future.

2. Clip names can be changed in Windows Explorer - right click/rename. To save confusion, it's a good idea to do this before using them on the timeline.
You can also give a particular instance from any clip on the timeline it's own "active take" name to help identify its content.

3. I've experienced this timecode pausing too - may be something to do with display rates, but it doesn't appear to have any effect on actual capture or playback.

1. I noticed in the designated "captured media" folder there is a file that shares the same name as a clip, but it ends in .sfk. What is .sfk?

(i.e. Vegas Clip 001.avi & Vegas Clip 001.avi.sfk)

2. Also, does renaming the capture clips in the explorer actually change the name of clip on the hard drive? If it does, how does this affect the instances already in the timeline?

1. The sfk is the file which enables fast display of the audio waveform.

2. Yes, Explorer is accessing your original files on the hard drive. If you change a name after adding material to the timeline, Vegas will, on opening the project, tell you it can't find the file, and you have to direct it to the newly named file.
