How about a direct import of Premiere 5/6 projects? I know that I can use EDL, but that rarely works right for some of my projects. Plus, that would be a good way to sway new business. Their file format is just a plain ol' ASCII file... nothing fancy.
1. Right click on transitions and specify duration in seconds/frames.
2. Capture, edit, and print to tape in DV type 1 or 2.
3. Print to tape from the timeline.
4. Preview both video and audio in preview window while scrubbing in trimmer.
5. Give the trimmer it's own scrub control.
6. Come up with a different registration scheme for all Sonic Foundry products!
Preview to RAM, definitely. Especially with ram being so cheap, ( I put a gb in my machine for $100). It's so great being able to preview a 2-3 minute segment in ram w/o waiting for a render. This may have been an underutilized feature in the past because of the expense of ram but it's really a great way to go.

Samples, Time, MTC, etc
A Quantize Audio feature.
Mix Snapshots
So we don’t have to save 5 or 6 of the same session
three things...
1. most importantly - I would love to see the audio follow the video when you adjust the velocity envelope on the video track...it would be nice to have the option of having the audio pitch up and down accordingly OR stretch (maintaining same pitch no matter how fast or slow the video is)
2. improved video capture (scene detection) ...I think that's one of the improvements SF has already mentioned as a new feature
Please Please Please do not detach the transport... the integrated feel of Vegas is one of it's strongest features - I don't want to end up with a load of pointless windows like Steinborg Products.
1.When starting Vegas you should get a window that will ask for project name.
After creating a new project or opening an existing one, all new recordings will have the project name with automatic numbering instead of “track recording…”.
This will make managing recording very comfortable
2.It would be nice if there will be option to save the main screen as a personal template, so each time you start Vegas it’ll initialize with the saved template. It is essential utility for multi-user system.
3.It would be nice to have a button for “Render as” in the tool bar.
4.While rendering it would be easier if the system ignores empty space in the beginning of a project and start rendering from the point that first event starts.
5.It would be nice to be able to press the record button while listening and that the recording will start at this point. (punch in)
6.I would like to get auto cross on every cut I make, i.e. a diagonal cut.
7.It would be nice to have the option of auto shift, when deleting an event the next event will automatically be shifted to the left with auto cross fade that has been defined.
1) Basic playback of an existing MIDI track to sync to
2) Proper bus grouping - busses that can be routed to the main faders (that you can also automate changes in - both busses and main faders for overall fade of all tracks or bus changes) - or a real-time render mode so you can make bus and fader changes while it renders
3) After arming a track, the ability to punch into record while the armed track is playing
4) Ability to insert sections of time through all tracks even when there aren't any tracks without having to select every track and drag them forward
5) Completely separate audio version with no video features
6) An install that doesn't require DX8 or the DV update
I'ld like a video filter, where I could load in an AVI, like maybe a Brittany Spears video and then have the ability to remove clothing one piece at a time. I think this Filter is available by someone, I've seen it used on an Alanis Morsette video.
P.S. Some of you people that are making recommendations for new features should read the manual first, you might realize that they're already there. Especially the one's on being able to route a buss to the master fader.....look into Aux busses!! or selecting multiple Channels and moving their volume together. I can route an aux send buss to the master fader, why can't you?
Come on guy's
This is your chance for Sonic Foundry to read what YOU want before they come out with Vegas 3, or keep it up and you'll be back here BITCHING about those features!
George Ware
With all do respect George, I've seen these same posts right before v2.0 was released. I didn't see any features that was recommended get implemented in v2.0, but we did get a lot of video features that we didn't ask for. I would expect a lot more along the same lines, in features that will expand in a broader user base, instead of fine tuning the ones they already offer.
I've read a lot of your post, You have a lot of knowledge of audio and this is the reason Im asking people like you to TELL Sonic Foundry what WE want. They will not just listen to one person but if we all tell them what WE want, maybe we will see the things WE want. I agree with you and I don't want to see the same thing with Vegas 3.
