OMF seems ok. It transfered a vegas project pretty well on the CuiBono demo. The way some apps handled the fades and crossfades after that was pretty laughable, but not vegas' fault. Can any formats save fx settings as well ?

Are we finally getting BWF support in Vegas 6.
I really really really hope it's in there.

When can we upgrade to the latest version?

Good question,
of course we'll just have to wait and see, not long now.
Totally remarkable that it wasn't there from day one, it is the industry standard for film and television, I don't think anyone needs Vegas to write BWF, just read it, surely that isn't rocket science.

I'm one of those audio guys that chose Vegas because it allowed me to do both audio and video in one app, although I only intended to do audio. Now I have a pro video camera because customers kept asking if I could do video.

I have been looking into portable recorders, like the Fostex FR2 or Sound Devices 722 or 744T. I have been wondering if I the extra investment for timecode was worth it. If Vegas 6 is going to support auto-synching of BWF audio files, that means it will be real easy to sync separately-recorded location sound to a video track. Wow. That will save a lot of time! Not to mention much better sound quality, 24/96, etc.

What other audio software and hardware supports BWF? Note: Sound Forge 8 does not.

By the way, Bob, I could imagine a scenario where writing BWF in Vegas might be useful. If there was a way to sync timecode in Vegas to a camera, then a laptop could be used as an on-location DAW to make timecode recordings in Vegas, which would later snap to the video in post. Gee, this is beginning to sound professional.

The TC thing isn't that big a deal IMO, first there's no point unless you can lock the camera and cameras with external sync are rather pricey and then you've got a cable running from the camera unless you want to blow a lot on RF TC gear.
I've recorded into my laptop using Vegas and just sync to clapper or handclap at the start, should be able to hold sync for over an hour, if you slate the tail as well it's easy to check. I agree though, the 'pros' look at me a bit like I'm from Mars when I show them how easy it all can be, I think the time and money they spend freaking out of broken TC etc I more than recover in the way I work.
However most of the multitrack location recorders do record in BWF, there is a utility around to split a BWF into multiple .wavs as well.
As to the FR2, reviews I've read say that recording in 24 bit is just a waste, the noise floor is too high to justify it. Be aware that the TC module for FR2 is around USD 800. I'm looking more at the PMD 660, small and less buttons to do the wrong thing with, only 16/48 but that's good enough for most field recordings.
And according to very good rumours over on the video forum BWF support is in V6.

The Mackie Series of hard disk recorders as well as other recorders are able to support BWF. Alesis and Tascam might also be able to support them as well.
Writing back to BWF would be useful, so we can export these tracks back to the HDD recorders if necessary.

As I understand it, * V-6, scheduled release date 4/18/05, will support BWF files, VST plugs and AAF file import/export.
* I was drunk when I heard this, but believe it to be true...
Edit:
PS-- I also believe in soul-mates, the perfect women and the Easter bunny.

It doesn't bother you that you can only import BWF and not export to it?
