What sort of AVI files are these?

I downloaded from the web a multipart tutorial that came as a series of
zipped files. Once unzipped ,right clicking the files, says they they are
AVI files. If I click open with Windows Media Player they play ok . If I
select open with Vegas the files opens but I get the sound only, no video.

What sort od AVI's are these. I had the idea of putting each part on the
Vegas timeline, saving it as one AVI file, 45 minutes long, & burning them
onto a disk.

They are probably some variation of DivX or Xvid. You need to have the proper codecs for these installed, and even then they can be problematic. Another possibility is MJPEG, which also requires a specific codec. Search this forum for DivX and MJPEG for lots of discussion.

Download a tool like AVIcodec (http://avicodec.duby.info/) in order to get the FourCC info. AVIcodec will probably give you a download link to the codec. If it doesn't, just post back here with the FourCC and we should be able to figure out what codec was used.
