What the heck is "Fade Offset"?

Usually when I drag the edge of a clip to create a fade, Vegas 7.0e tells me the fade length in seconds and frames.

Now it's telling me "Fade Offsett -00:00:01:20" when I know by counting that I have an 18-frame fade.

Why does it say "Fade Offset" instead of the length of the fade?

Sounds like you've changed your "ruler" so that it no longer starts at "0". Move to the beginning of the timeline, right-click the ruler, choose "Set Time at Cursor...", enter 0, and then see how it works.

BTW, mine always says "Fade Offset" when adjusting the fade.

Excellent call. Exactly right.

I moved timecode "0" to the beginning of a region which is 2 sec and 8 frames to the right of the timeline's start.

Now, then I pull a fade it adds the 2:08 to the length of the fade, making it confusing as to how long the fade actually is.

Now that I know what's happening, I can can calculate the true fade length in my head...which is a pain.

And you are correct: I never noticed that it always says "Fade Offset" when indicating the length of fades.

I just don't know why Vegas cares if the time code's zero point is other than the beginning of the timeline.
