What will I get for lifetime if i upgrade to VEGAS Post (Not 365)?

iEmby wrote on 1/28/2023, 1:01 AM

I have VEGAS Edit 15 permanent version.

I am planning to upgrade to VEGAS Post.

I know I will get VEGAS Pro 20 only with All Updates but What About VE & VI?

Are VE & VI will come with permanent activations with all future updates or VE & VI also have any versions?

Updates are only guaranteed for that version of the software, not for every version. If you want to always have the latest version and the latest update, subscribing is the better path to take. It is a bit unclear right now if there will be a VEGAS Pro 21 (or whatever it would be called) or if VEGAS has moved on to a continuous delivery model and there will be a certain time that updates for VEGAS 20 will be cut off unless you renew your license...There has been talk of moving to such a model, but I have no idea where they stand with it.

... but what about vegas effects & vegas image?

Given that updates to Vegas Pro cease with the end of Vegas Pro's allowable update cycle (typically in the past with the release of a new version), it follows that updates to ancillary programs such as VE and VI also end at that very same point. It would be a poor business decision for Vegas to allow endless updates to VE and VI - particularly since both are sourced from a 3rd party unrelated company - beyond the point of the allowable updating window for Vegas Pro.

Vegas Effects is a trimmed down version of HitFilm Pro (without edit functions and without their 3rd part inclusions such as Mocha HitFilm and Foundry) and Vegas Image is a special version of the same company's Imerge product - both from FXHome now under ArtList ownership.

Might be an idea to sell Vegas Effects and Vegas Image as separate addons. For me it seems that they never (or very seldom) get updates? 🤔

Reyfox wrote on 1/28/2023, 7:54 AM

@janndk right now, FXHome is a mess. Artlist took over 1.5 years ago, made a bunch of hype promises, and have delivered nothing except pushing Artlist and a subscription model. Many of the core "public faces" of the software have left. Big promises for Ignite Pro. They now no longer will do anything and have said so. Go to their user forum, and it's dead.

This has me concerned about Effecs/Image going forward, especially since I am considering Post as my next Vegas upgrade when the "20" cycle ends.

Selling Effects/Image as addons is a great idea though! Especially if you've already invested in Vegas Pro.

I would love to be wrong, but right now, the glass is "half empty" for me. I never used HFP (I have 2021.3) for editing. Don't like it.

I'm Vegas Pro 365 subscriber - been thinking about upgrading to Vegas Post 365, as Vegas Effects might be fun to play with. However, paying $10 extra per month for the rest of my life, for a product that never updates, isn't appealing.

If Vegas Effect were sold as an add-on (perpetual license, that works with Vegas Pro 365) I would probably buy it right away.

Reyfox wrote on 1/28/2023, 8:17 AM

I'd buy it right now if reasonably priced. Updates? I don't know. I am sure that there will be updates.

My understanding... If you purchase VEGAS Post Perpetual, then VEGAS, Vegas Effects, and Vegas Image will all be available for you to use and will not shut off after a period of time. The only thing that will "shut off" is the ability to get updates after a period of time.

Wiew wrote on 1/28/2023, 9:57 AM

Of course we don't know what the agreements are between Hitfilm/Artlist and Vegas,

but Artlist is turning Hitfilm into a tiktok/instagram editor rather than a compositing editor

I was very happy with Hitfilm and have already made nice things with it (compositing, no editing because as an editor I didn't like it)

I am also thinking about making the switch to Post

but then Vegas effects have to keep up

otherwise I might have to make the switch to after effects against my will

There have been 4 different versions of VEGAS Effects and VEGAS Image released so far. They do update it, just not as frequently as VEGAS Pro.

As I understand, the updates/development has been quite minimal (compared to what's happening with Vegas Pro)? So, Vegas Post package might be a bit of a mismatch, especially for 365 subscribers?

We will be updating VEGAS Effects 4 and VEGAS Image 4 in the not too distant future.
