The most important thing in my experience is a cooling system able to handle heat from the CPU and the GPU at the same time. My previous Dell XPS throttled badly under load.
These days I'm using an Asus Zenbook 14 and am happy with it. Others use the ProArt series.
What's good really depends on budget, size and how you will use it. I mainly have it hooked up to an external display so don't mind the main screen is on the small side. I also use it for work so wanted portability.
For performance you can see some benchmarks in my signature and feel free to upload your own results.
My Dell Inspiron is mediocre but my source files (XAVC) are relatively pedestrian. Your happiness is will depend a lot on your source media and the fX you apply. Even my Dell has an NVMe and a SATA SSD so I don’t have to put up with multi-ms access time and I can separate O/S and applications from data.
I'm running VP on a MSI Alpha 17 C7VG and the cooling works perfectly here, as you can manually adjust the fan speeds for the GPU and CPU if necessary. The AI features, in particular Smart Mask, also run smoohtly.
The MSRP is pretty high though. Therefore I bought the MSI on Black Friday as a warehouse deal and use it for gaming as well.
Your right they usually don't give the year either I was kinda wondering about the SSD cards this should be a good feature but does it replace the 32 ram requirement

Does the hz kinda help I know it's data transfer but is it important at this level of labtop. I have been recommended different types of labtop and they definitely have great cooling systems the alpha 17 I was looking at and I noticed the hz could be 240 or less. I'm just wondering how low the hz could be and still run the program. Or if it even matters.
Great thanks. I'm getting there. I know now about the SSD and hz so I have concurred the cooling problem and I know I need 32ram. Do I need 32 or can 16 be used.
If you refer to the System Requirements page from Vegas Pro's product webpage that I linked earlier in this thread, you'll see that 16GB RAM is good for HD (i.e. 1920 x 108) projects but 32GB is recommended for 4K (i.e. 3840 x 2160) projects.

I have been running Vegas in my laptop with 16GB RAM with 5K Red footage, no problem. The important issue IMO is whether the RAM is upgradeable. In some laptops only one stick can be upgraded. Others use LPDDR5 which is typically soldered onto motherboard and cannot be upgraded.
Honest I'm thinking of getting the alpha 17it has great cooling capabilities and I just kinda need to know what extra besides the base model I need. I know that I need 32ram and need to also know if additional ram can be added if it has 16. Regardless I think I am getting close your computer is definitely bad ass I just need a computer to run the program with AI capabilities. I hope all you guys had a great weekend. Again thanks for all the advice. I could use a little more.
I kinda would like a different icon too this one with heart eyes freaks me out.
If you click on your icon in the forum header (it's just to the R of 'Comments') and select 'My Profile' and then L click on the icon in the top RH corner of that page, you can then select your own custom created icon from your computer.
