Whay are Media Bin only "virtual"

For easy and logical fileing of raw footage I have my Media Pool divided into Windows directories where each scene or logical days filming is filed - but I have to do this sorting in Windows Explore after capturing as the Vegas media bins are only virtual and are linked to projects. This seems very silly to me. Is there some logic or some functions I have missed?

If they weren't virtual, then you could potentially have dozens of the same clip living on your computer...That would be very bad.
For project where we are doing a fair amount of location shifting, we load everything into actual folders at capture, and then use those to fill the media pool and build bins that replicate the capture folders. Then it more or less seems like it's matching.

Which means you need reset the capture address in preferences or edit with Windows Exploer like I do. I'm surprised Vegas does not allow specification of capture folder and subfolder fromt the capture window.

If you have a clip that you wish use in differebt projects in the Vegas way with virtual bins it might be unavailable?

Yes, the bins would be invisible to other apps.
And yes, I do reset the capture address, but I have to do this anyway, since we specify so many different drives on the system.
