When adding graphics and titles, how does it render.

When importing graphics and placing titles, are they rendered as DV prior to exporting to MPEG, or are they treated as uncompressed, like Avid Xpress Pro, and Pinnacle Liquid Edition 6?

The thing I hate about the DV codec, is that it can wreak havoc on roling titles. On the other hand, if they were handled as uncompressed for the purpose of MPEG2 export without being rendered in DV first, then things would be looking good.

Does this make sense?

Vegas has a demo, check it out. (It may not render mpeg due to licensing, though)

Any Vegas generated media (titles, gradients, etc) are rendered in 4-4-4 colorspace, I believe. I don't know about imported graphics.

In general Vegas gives high-quality output.

Have done many rolling titles many times without any problems.

The media, until rendered, is treated as uncompressed. At render, whether to DV or not, the generated media is then compressed to the render format, same as AVID more or less treats it. It's not possible to render a project to DV and have the titles remain uncompressed. Vegas does not render the titles in the background, however. They are always uncompressed until rendered. All generated media is.

Render out a credit roll, title, or page curl in Vegas and then do the same in any NLE application. You'll see a marked difference, with Vegas to the good.

Spot, is that Spot as in Douglas Spotted Eagle?

I truly despise it when Premiere (like so many other NLEs) renders everything to DV 4:1:1. So, to recap, if I understood correctly, with Vegas, when I choose to export to MPEG2, my titles and other generated media (stills and 3D animations), will be in 4:2:2? If it's the case, then WOW, I'm impressed. This is what I want, and need.

I suppose Vegas will be at a slight disadvantage in speed compared with my existing Premiere Pro and Matrox RTX100 combo. On the other hand, I have 3 computers that can be hooked up for network rendering. I wonder what the chances are for such a setup to be faster then real-time?

I've downloaded Vegas yesterday night. At first, being a long time Premiere user, I feel lost; the GUI and workflow seem to be completely different then what I am used to. Any pointers or start-up tutorials on the net that can help me along?

there are absolutely no picture quality issues with rolling titles in premiere... they come out xlnt if handled correctly.

in fact, the titler in premiere has a number of advantages over the vegas titler... download the vegas demo and see for yourself.

Any time you render to MPEG 2, you are rendering to 4:2:0. When you render from the Vegas timeline, without rendering to DV first, all generated media goes into the encode at 4:4:4, and comes out 4:2:0.
There are several locations for tutorials on Vegas.
My shameless plug is that the VASST site has a huge number, nearly 1000 Vegas-related resources. www.vasst.com/login.htm

Ed Troxel's site has lots of tutorials, www.jetdv.com

Billboy has a good site, so does Mike Jones.

You can reach them all from the VASST site.
There are also 3 Vegas books from myself that should help,
Gary Kleiner has a good video series, as does VASST.
Finally, these forums and the DMN forums contain a huge number of veteran users of Vegas.
