Vegas Studio seems to update rather sporadically, but on average about every 18 to 24 months maybe. I would expect (total guess here, but a guess with some experience behind it) that it will be a year before the next version. Version 6 has *so many* advances over 3 that it's definately worth upgrading. On top of that, SONY's upgrade pricing for the Studio versions is so low as to be almost free. Go for it.

You can get SMVS 6 from Best Buy (and probably other places now) for $89 with a $30 rebate.

I hate rebates, but if you're looking for a good price, you can't beat $60.

The upgrade price to Vegas Studio Platinum is $59.95.

$10 bucks off that at the link below, so get it by download or packaged with free shipping for $49.95.

I just got it at Best Buy for $59 with a $30 rebate. So $29 beats $60!

:)

Of course I owe my savings to Adobe for taking so long to post the new Premiere Elements trial software.

How do you get the "Qualifying Serial #" though??
Chienworks wrote on 1/10/2006, 10:23 AM
RobV: by owning a license to a previous version of Vegas Studio. If you've registered your previous version you can find your serial number on this site under My Account / My Software.

Thanks a lot Chienworks!!

Well, the BB website shows $89 - but I think that is for the non-platinum product, but also shows rebates totaling $60 that reference platinum. If true, getting the platinum product for $29 would be a heck of a deal - and would also piss me off for having just upgraded for $50, especially since it just arrived today and I have not even opened the box!

Oh well, I guess the sale is over. It was standard Vegas Movie Studio +DVD for $59 (plus $30 rebate). Its back to $89 now.

Even more so if you payed $60 for the upgrade to Platinum and found out that it had dropped to $50 right after ordering and before it even arrived. And Sony Customer Service hasn't/won't reply to the request for $10 credit. Oh well!!!
