When does smart rendering MPG2 kick in?

I have used the AVS converter to convert AFS video to MPG 2.
This is so successful, that DVD Architect accepts it as is, no need to recompress.
Vegas, on the other hand, is more picky and will not smart render the file for some reason. I have inspected two files, one that Vegas will smartrender, and the other, and with my (limited) knowlede, they seem identical. Same aspect ratio, same pixel ratio, same audio sample rate etc.

Any ideas what to look for, where to refine the AVS converter in order to make Vegas accept it for smart rendering?

Maybe never...

but look at GOP.

That's true, but your best chance of smart render working is when these render properties are identical to the source.
Size
PAR
Field Order
Frame Rate
Max Bitrate
Av Bitrate

I used to use smart-rendering all the time, but for some reason I can't figure out it stopped working quite a few Vegas revisions back. Is it still working for other people or is it just my system?

it worked for me yesterday in 9.0e when rendering hdv to the HDV-60i template.

Works for me in the HDV 60i template too... only if I used HDV 60i.

Odds are your project & media don't match.

It was discontinued in 9d and 9e for AVCHD, maybe some other formats as well.
