@nsm0220 Hi, uninstalling & reinstalling can do more harm than good, If the earlier version isn't removed completely you can end up getting duplicate files which then cause problems, all other aspects need to be looked at 1st before reinstalling,

  1. What software are you asking about? Vegas Pro...?
  2. What type of media are you trying to drop in ?

When you say "sound bar" do you mean audio track? A screenshot of the problem could be helpful (print screen or windows + shift + s)

@nsm0220 Hi, can you share the M4ediaInfo. In the link Dexcon shared there's an App called MediaInfo, download it, it's free & a fast download with no added adverts or any of that rubbish. https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo

After downloading, right click on the media file in your Windows folder, open MediaInfo, choose Text from the options at the top, Copy & paste the information in a new comment on here 👍

plus the thing where you can change the volume is gone on right box

RogerS wrote on 6/7/2023, 3:19 AM

The first file was just user error as the audio was there.

For the second file I've not seen this type of audio before:

Format/Info                              : Advanced Audio Codec Low Complexity with Spectral Band Replication
Commercial name                          : HE-AAC
Format settings                          : NBC

and it may not be supported in VEGAS. This video is going to be hard to edit in VEGAS anyway (highly compressed and variable framerate). You could try converting the file. Use ShutterEncoder and select h.264 here: https://www.shutterencoder.com/

Missing panels can easily be fixed- look for layouts in the menu. alt+d d will reset the layout.

EricLNZ wrote on 6/7/2023, 3:19 AM

@nsm0220 Try setting your windows layout back to "Default Layout".

@RogerS Hi, I had a look at HE AAC, there's more than i can't take in at once,

Here's 2 samples from this site, https://www2.iis.fraunhofer.de/AAC/xhe-aac.html one video & one just audio, both say HE-AAC, the video one plays in VP20 but the audio only doesn't 🤷‍♂️

HE AAC files on Google Drive

Dexcon wrote on 6/7/2023, 5:39 AM

The video of ChID-BLITS-EBU imports okay onto Vegas Pro 20's timeline on both my desktop and laptop - but there's no audio track at all.

ChID-BLITS-EBU-Narration does not import at all.

The audio from both play back okay on both computers using Windows Media Player.

If the audio format is causing the OP's problem - which would seem likely - then transcoding the media's audio to another more common format via HandBrake or Shutter Encoder should solve the problem (assuming that those transcoders can accept the HE AAC format).

RogerS wrote on 6/7/2023, 8:17 PM

Just re-encode to ProRes or h264 with AAC-LC for audio and it should be fine. Handbrake or ShutterEncoder can do this.
