where did the audio go???

Lady asks me if I can covert VHS to DVD. Sure I says. Capture, put in Vegas 7, edit, convert to mpg2. Mpg 2 file has audio. make DVD using Architect 4. No audio on the DVD. In fact no audio on the preview. What is this? This is new and it makes me look real stupid in front of the client. I look at previous DVD projects and no troubles. I've been using this software for four years and this is the first time I've seen this. What the hell is this? And I've tried every setting I can think of. Anyone know what this is?

Normally for DVDs you would render the video only to MPEG 2 and then render the audio separately to AC3. There aren't any templates that do both of these together. How did you get the audio into the MPEG 2 file and what format is it?

A lot of users, including this one, render mpeg-2 & AC3 separately, but that doesn't mean it's the only or correct way to do it.

There is, in fact, a template that automatically includes audio -- it's the DVD NTSC template, at least in Vegas 7, which I'm looking at right now. Writes mpeg layer II audio.

One can also check the 'include audio' box on the other templates to create such a file.

Thanks for responding so quick. Maybe I can still salvage this project. It was an avi file rendered with both audio and video to mpg2. The mpg2 file has both audio and video on it. Preview in Arch 4 plays audio briefly before silence.

I'm sure you could render an AC3 file from the project, then load that into DVD Architect to replace the audio that isn't working.

Ya sure. Did and there it is.
Haven't needed to do this before so that was a surprise.
Tanks,
