Purchased from Best Buy after suffering learning Pinnacle Studio 9 for past year. Looked at price and also compatibility with 256 MB or Ram whereas newer versions of Pinnacle required 512. Also noted HD capability.

Can't you see why Pinnacle finally got bought up by AVID. What a disaster that Studio 9 was.

Direct from Sonic Foundry after my local industrial film maker told me about Vegas Video. And, since then, direct from Sony's website.

I got Vegas 1.0 with my Delta 1010 and bough CUBASE. CUBASE was so sophisticated that the musicians I recorded got board with all the knob twisting that was required to record a simple track, so I abandoned it for the seemingly simpler Vegas. I quickly fell in love with the simplicity of design and hidden power.

When 3.0 came out I bought a MiniDV cam to try the video features.

When the Z1U came out I bought one to enhance the power of Vegas. Vegas sold the Z1U to me.

I've upgraded though sonic foundry / sony ever since.

My move to Vegas was a bit on the strange side. I was in a quandry as Sonic Foundry had orphaned the CD Architect plug-in for Sound Forge, and IQS was going out of business and orphaning SAW (Software Audio Workshop) which was my multitrack editor. I came from grease pencil and razor blade to Turtle Beach's 56K system to SF and SAW.

Then I met Gary Rebholz at an ITVA meeting here in Milwaukee. It's got a different name now I can never remember, but it's still going strong. We talked a little about the various Sonic Foundry software after his presentation, and when I mentioned my situation he strongly suggested I consider Vegas. I said, "But I don't do video!" Gary told me it didn't matter, I could ignore that and just use the mixer, it was the best in the world, and would generate red book CD's. The price was higher than I was interested in at the time though. Still, being an Acid and SF user, I did get all the promotional material. Suddenly, an offer for Vegas at $150 simply because I was a SF and Acid user showed up in my mailbox, and I purchased Vegas 3. Since then I have always upgraded through the company upgrades. I've also added video editing to my rep. :)

I researched all my options and bought Vegas 2.0 at Best Buy what seems like ages ago. I've upgraded every year since at the Sonic Foundry/Sony website using the upgrade deal e-mail. I love Vegas and its reliability has allowed me to make a business out of a creative outlet.

I ordered my copy of Vegas and Dvd from one website, not be be named here, and waited and waited for delivery. It never came as was explained later: they needed a copy of (both sides of) the Visa card - not unusual for orders from outside the USA even though Visa doesn't approve this way of checking customer information.

Anyway in the end i got it from the Sony website: the quick 'n easy transaction + the swift download made me smile on the previous adventure. Even better: still smiling as Vegas and DVDA are fantastic to learn and work with!

Bought Vegas 4 at ebay very cheap, just a few weeks before Vegas 5 came out. I've been upgrading ever since. Also bought Sound Forge w/ Noise Reduction and CD Arquitect also at ebay.

Vegas 2.0 at Best Buy dirt cheap. Then immediately ordered the upgrade to Vegas 3.0 from Sonic Foundry at the reduced upgrade price. Ordered Vegas 4 + DVDA 1.0 from Sonic Foundry when it came out at the upgrade price. Haven't moved past Vegas 4 due to a failure by Sony/SF to improve the basic editor and address the long standing issues and/or antequated "features" like the basic credit roll.
Very happy with Vegas 4 overall especially on my system. Tried to buy DVDA 2.0 alone without Vegas 5, but the company wouldn't sell it to me by itself. Too bad. THAT had some real improvements.

I had a demo copy of Vegas 3 and I really liked it, but at the time I had a Pinnacle DC1000 w/ Premiere. I eventually ditched that setup for a regular firewire card and Avid Xpress Pro. I hated Avid so I tried Vegas again and that was it.

Interesting fact: I sent my Canon camera to service 2 years ago and when Canon shipped it back to me upon repair, they sent my paperwork (with my creditcard #) to the wrong person. That person was nice enough to call me to let me know Canon's mistake and so we chatted about NLE software and he praised Vegas. Anyway, I ended up making the switch pretty soon after that.

So, thanks whoever you are!
