- "File>Import DVD Camcorder Disc" select the appropriate disc drive.
- or try, Open (All files) "Video VTS_01_0.IFO" files. (last digit before IFO ext. is chapters) will import the video and audio to the timeline.
... Whether either of these works with AC3 audio tracks or copy protected tracks, I'm not certain of.

If you just want to copy the disc, use a DVD burning application like Roxio, Nero or other.

Thanks for your reply... I need to edit. How do I get the audio track to show up in Vegas?

File / Import / DVD camcorder disk.

Thanks...

File > Import: Media or AAF or Broadcase Wave

When I select Media I can browse to the DVD and see these files:
.VOB and .BUP and .IFO

.VOB's import but no audio shows up in the audio track.

You should use:

File | Import | DVD Camcorder Disc...

as Cheinworks stated.

This will convert the raw DVD data into mpg files that you can then load and edit.

However, I have tried simply dragging the VOB file into Vegas 6 and it pulled in the audio as well.

Depending on the audio codec, renaming .vob to .mpg sometimes does the trick.
Often works with mpeg-audio.

Thanks for your reply but all I see when I click on file import is;
Media
AAF
Broadcase Wave

I'd love to try your suggestion but please tell me how I can make it show up so I can select it.

I am not working from a DVD Camcorder disk I am working from a DVD I burnt from my VHS/DVD Recorder which created the files I referenced above.

What version of Vegas do you have? Be specific.

I have Vegas 6 on another PC and it works fine here.

"I am not working from a DVD Camcorder disk I am working from a DVD"
Your DVD can be considered the DVD Camcorder Disc.

When you select "File> Import> and click on DVD Camcorder Disc" your CD/DVD drive should be listed.
If "DVD Camcorder Disc" is not on Vegas' Import menu at all, perhaps a un-install > re-install of Vegas, assuming your DVD drive is otherwise functioning properly.

6.0b (build 115) is the version I am using.

I opened this version of Vegas 6 on another PC also, and when I click File > Import all I see are the three options already listed ... I see no DVD Camcorder Disc.

When I select the option 'Media' and the Import window opens, I can browse to the DVD and it opens and I see the files I listed in my previous post. As mentioned, I can import and only the video comes in.

I can try reinstalling on both my pc's. Is there anything special or extra I need to look for and install? Are you using a later update than mine?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Download the freeware MediaInfo and post all the details about the .vob files you are trying to import. That information may lead to a workaround.

The function to import media from a DVD was introduced in Vegas V.6.0c. You are using V.6.0b which you should have updated to V.6.0d long ago unless you have some specific reason to stick with V.6.0b.

If you don't have some particular reason to stick with V.6.0b then just download and install the free V.6.0d update and you should be able to import the video from the DVD as people have been describing.

Thanks, Mark.
I didn't know it was in any version of 6.

Thank you... this works to import the video and the audio.

QUESTION: While I see the sound wave in the audio track, when I play the clip no sound is heard. It is not muted in either Windows or Vegas. In the Mixer only the master appears and there is no sound wave showing in the master channel. I can not get the audio channel with the sound wave to show up in the Mixer.

NOTE: After importing from the DVD (recorded off the DVR) the files are mpeg2 files. As stated, the sound wave appears 'normal' but no sound is heard.

In the Sony Knowledgebase at the following link, I read:

"Why can I view MPEG-2 files on some computers but not others?

Answer
MPEG-2 files require an MPEG-2 decoder in order to view them in the Windows Media Player and other applications. Windows does not install an MPEG-2 decoder by default, but you can download MPEG-2 decoders at www.vcdhelp.com. Sony Creative Software does not endorse or support any third-party MPEG-2 decoders. "

http://www.custcenter.com/cgi-bin/sonypictures.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=272&p_created=1021611600&p_sid=4TPOtFRj&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MjcsMjcmcF9wcm9kcz0xNyw0NzUmcF9jYXRzPSZwX3B2PTIuNDc1JnBfY3Y9JnBfcGFnZT0xJnBfc2VhcmNoX3RleHQ9bXBlZyAy&p_li=&p_topview=1

So I then converted the mpg's to avi files and imported them. While the audio sound waves appear, they still do not play. Also, nothing shows up in the video track.

This has become very time consuming and obviously I'm not the only one wrestling with it. I'm a teacher and need these files to show to my students and can not afford the time to fight this.

So is Vegas mainly for grabbing AV off cameras and I should just find another editor for taking AV off my DVR??

Ideas, reccomendations, etc?
