Where's the H.264

I have QuickTime PRO installed on my machine, and I fully expected to be able to export the render in the that format (Quicktime .MOV with H.264 format). I could have sworn it was there in the 7.0A demo I tested before purchasing Vegas last week. So where is it?

How does one add new codecs into Vegas 7.0b? There must be a way.

Hmmm... I don't see it but maybe that's because I don't have QuickTime Pro?

There is no need to add Quicktime as it is already supported by Vegas. Go to File > Render As... in the Save as type: select QuickTime 7 (*.mov). If you don't see the template you want under the Template: dropdown, just press the Custom... button and select the Video tab on the Custom Template - QuickTime 7 dialog. You can set the Video format: to any of the QuickTime codecs you have installed on your system. You should see H.264 in that list but like I said, I don't.

Neither H.264 (AVC video) or AAC audio codecs are exposed as custom QT options in the Apple/Quicktime sdk licensed by SMS. This is true even if you have QT Pro.

Vegas 7 gives you two encoders for AVC (H.264)- Sony AVC/AAC for files up to 720x480 (best for psp and SD) and MainConcept AVC/AAC (best for for iPod and HD exporting). Do not include video (uncheck "Include Video") and you'll get AAC audio, works in ITunes.

Just selecting Quicktime isn't good enough, without a compression method you get files 5 times the original m2t transport stream. Using the default Sorensen 3 codec doesn't produce the quality I was looking for.

I was going to export into a Mpeg2 1920*1080i file and then import that to Quicktime and encode it in H.264 there, however exporting an Mpeg2 from Vegas 7 at that resolution always crashes Vegas 7.0b to the desktop (7.0a was the same). I will post a note on this later, seems to be an overflow bug in the mainconcept mpeg2 codec possibly, which prevents full HD resolution being extracted from Vegas to Mpeg2.
