Where to install codec?

When you download a new codec, where do you install it so that it is recognized by V7 qnd show up in the dropdown menu in V7 for rendering?

Each codec should have a standard installation procedure and will install it into Windows. There is nothing specific you need to do (or can do) to install them into Vegas. However, Vegas will only use VFW (Video for Windows) compatible codecs. It will not recognize or use codecs which are Direct-X only. This is usually indicated when a file will play in Windows Media Player, but not Vegas or Virtual Dub.
