Where to put mastering plug-in ?

When I want to master my audio in a VV project and I'm using the audio of the video material together with audio FX (short sound effects/jingles) and background music, would it be the best option to put a plugin on each audio track speperatly or to leave all audio tracks in it's original state and only put the mastering plugin on the master (output) channel ?

Or maybe something like a soft limiter on the seperate audio tracks and a loudness maximizer on the master faders ... or vice versa.

The advantage of using individual track effects is that you can apply different effects (or different parameters of the same effect) to each track. The advantage of using a master output effect is that you can apply an effect to everything in one step. Of course, each advantage is the other's disadvantage (if you see what i mean). The same can be said of event and buss level effects. It's an issue of scope: how many tracks or events do you want to be affected by the effect? That will be the deciding factor for where you want to apply the effect. You can of course apply exactly the same effect to every single event in the project, but it would be a lot faster and more efficient to apply it once to the master output as long as you want that effect applied to everything.
