which audio editors?

The HDR-CX12 audio records a lot of wind noise and I need an audio editor which can edit AC-3 files to eliminate or, at least significantly reduce the noise.

I'm a rank amateur, so lots of bells and whistles (and $'s) are not necessary.

Your recommendations please!

BTW - I have the HDR-CX12, haven't noticed excessive wind noise, thought the mic was pretty good compared to what I had before.

It's part of the plugin list. Make sure you are running the Platinum edition, I am not sure the plain Movie Studio version has it.

A search of their site and forums don't indicate that Levelator handles AC-3 files. Have you edited AC-3 files for noise reduction in Levelator?

I'm sorry, I haven't used it on AC-3 files, so I guess it doesn't work with that.

audacity? Not sure it will handle that format but it is:

- Easy to use.
- FREE!
- Very powerful
