Which Codec am I using?

I use CineForm for capture so the avi's are made with their codec and there codec is often updated so I have .avi made with differing codecs. Is their latest codec backwards comparable or do I need keep on my machine a copy of all the past versions? If have some .avi made with the trial v3 that I doubt I will keep so do I need keep the codec when I go back to 2.1? How can I tell which codec is being used?

First of all, do the simplest test ... can you open the files? If so, you're all good to go and don't worry about it.

Firstly I have not reverted to 2.1 yet so I don't know. I'm probably OK - the program structure looks if 3.0 is deleted the codec should stay: But my question is an inquisitive one. I like to compare codecs, so my question remains. How do I know which one I'm using?

We maintain a backward compatible with old versions. Vegas should report the version number (somewhere). Codec is up to v2.5.
