Which Decklink Card for Vegas 6?

Which Decklink card should be specified for HD? What do Decklink cards do? Will the specified HD card fully support SD?

I keep seeing the ads that announce Decklink supports Vegas, but they are not clear as to what Decklink brings. Component in/out for Betacam SP? SDI in/out? Preview out? Does the card accelerate preview? What about audio? How does it help HD workflow? Betacam SP machine control included? Does it help render times?

The HD cards support SD, yes. SDI in/out, preview out, component if you buy a card with a breakout or the Multibridge. Card does not accelerate render. 422 machine control included. Audio is stereo, always. No help to render times, but remember that uncompressed is a much faster render than any compressed format.
Render generated media to uncompressed, and render again to DV. Uncompressed is faster to render in most situations, because there is less for the proc to do. That's the benefit. The detriment is that uncompressed requires big/fast disk arrays to provide thruput, and big fast arrays cost $$, although the cost has come down tremendously. I look at my 7K$ 420gig Medea and cringe. Not to mention the dual 320 SCSI card and $140 specialty cable to connect it. (per drive)

As DSE said, just choose the BMD card to match what sort of I/O you need. Read carefully through the BMD data on what sort of PC specs you must have to keep up, CPU horsepower isn't so much the issue as drive and bus speed.
One big bugbear for me at least, only stereo audio and only 16/48K even though the deck is sending 24/48K audio, never understood this, wish someone would clarify what is going on.
