Which GPU? ... or upgrade to Version 15?

I'm currently using Vegas Pro 14, my CPU is a Intel Core i7 7700K and i've 16 GB RAM.

I've no extra GPU but off course instead i'm using the internal HD 630.

With Vegas Pro 14 the HD 630 is working nice. Actually i'm impressed by the speed of this on-board GPU.

I'm cutting and editing FHD and UHD footages, i'm doing some color grading and put in some transitions and some effects to make the result more pleasing.

My prefered rendering codec is Intel HEVC. FHD rendering is very fast and here i'm happy with the HD630 but UHD rendering take a lot of time and i want to speed that up.

Which GPU would you suggest for my System? NVidia Quadro Px00 ? NVidia GTX 10x0 ? AMD RX 5x0? Any other?

I've read the different Threads about Vegas and GPU acceleration here but i'm still not sure whats the best GPU in combination with the i7-7700K to have a good balance and none of both is over- or underpowered.

Another option maybe is to update to Vegas Pro 15 to use QSV more efficient? (I would try by myself but my trial is already done:-| )

using a dGPU would be ideal for your case. you could get away with having a 980Ti or a 1070 or 1080 or 1080Ti if you decided to go with 15. it wouldn't be the best quality using the gpu OR what you are using now with the intel encoder, but since you only have 4 cores 8 threads i'd consider CPU encoding out of the question unless you have time to spare (start an encode, go do dishes, laundry ETC).
you could always go Ryzen but that'd require you to set up an entirely new system. Ryzen 7 1700 or 2700x and an asrock x370 killer sli/ac or x470 master sli/ac would do nicely.
i have an 8700k but the iGPU is basically the same as the 7700k and i guess i could run some tests for you. i could turn off some cores in the BIOS and make my system a 4 core 8 thread and see how things do in 15. sorry i don't have an opinion off the bat because i don't use the iGPU at all.

As long as you use Intel HEVC there will not be any advantage by using VPro 15. The only difference is that in Vpro 14 you render to a .mov file and in VPro 15 to .mp4

Ok, i did some tests now with the RX 560 vs HD 630 QSV. HD630 also with VMS 15.

All the same project (for UHD adjusted) of about 1 Minute with some basic color correction:

Vegas Pro 14:

MainConcept HD630 FHD 29,9fps 03:03
MainConcept HD630 UHD 29,9fps 09:07

HEVC HD630 FHD 29,9fps 02:01
HEVC HD630 UHD 29,9fps 04:26

Sony RX560 FHD 29,9fps 02:14
Sony RX560 FHD 29,9fps 02:11 OpenCL

Main RX560 FHD 29,9fps 02:14 OpenCL
Main RX560 UHD 29,9fps 08:00 OpenCL

Sony HD630 FHD 29,9fps 01:54 QSV
Sony HD630 UHD 29,9fps ERROR (why?)

VMS15:

Magix VMS 15 HD630 FHD 29,9fps 01:37 QSV
Magix VMS 15 HD630 UHD 29,9fps 02:18 QSV

Magix VMS 15 RX560 FHD 29,9fps 02:30 QSV

Magix VMS 15 HD630 QSV wins!

RX 560 GPU utilisation is always very low at about 7-15%, does anyone know why?

That are known figures, but all renders are AVC (H.264), nothing is HEVC (your desired rendering codec).

Actually, HEVC is in the list. Is 2nd best result in the series.

Anyhow i've also tested a compatitor consumer software and it had a much higher GPU utilisation and was much faster by this. Sad that Vegas can't do it this way.

But Vegas has the better workflow, so I'll go for Version 15.

If you are dedicated to the fastest HEVC output, why not render out of Vegas Pro to a visually or mathematically lossless codec that the other software will accept and do the final encode in the app that does what you consider the best/fastest job? You might break even on total time if the other app is that much faster.

Thank you for pointing out.
I used my desktop with Intel 630 and Nvidia 1050Ti, but could not use the Intel for rendering with the Intel HEVC codec, at least I could not see it was used (1%). One of the reasons I never choose that codec and used before with Vegas Pro the Vegas2Handbrake script to render to HEVC ( something the same john_dennis is pointing at).
But later on I tried it on laptop( also with Intell 630 and Nvidia 1050), but first I set that the GPU for starting Vegas has to be the Intel (not possible on desktop to switch) and now I see also very fast rendering to Intel HEVC.

Thanks again👍
