>want to render into a file of the same size
Are you sure that you mean this? This requirement is, in my opinion, less important than a lot of other factors.
Or do you mean "same quality", "same aspect ratio" etc?
When I jump between programs I always use fully uncompressed. The losses are kept to a minimum this way. The downsides however are that uncompressed takes up a lot of drive space and is not easy to edit on ANY machine or nle. Render times are a lot longer too.
I'm not sure if edius has a "no recompress" editing system or not but if it does then you may want to render over to mpeg2.
Space is no problem - it is some clips at 30-40 sec. max. each, I just want them to be 1920 x 1080 too to import in the Edius project in the best qyality.
If so, you have the Canopus HQ and the Canopus Lossless codecs available to you. That would be my choice to preserve quality and keep the file size within reason.

How can you choose the Canopus Codec inside Vegas. I have installed Edius on my Vegas 8 system, and they seem to coexist, but I cannot find other Codecs in my render settings than the usual ones.
