Which slide photo shows when still ?

I realize this may be software specific but I'm wondering what controls which photo of a slide show creation shows when the video is posted on public media (sitting while not played) ?
I create a slide show using Vegas Studio and looking at the file (in a file manager) sitting on my HD it shows the 1st photo of my slide show which to me would be normal.
But when I post it on public media, when it's seen in the post (not playing) it shows a photo from middle of the slide show ??
Is this some sort of proprietary data within the original photo file that public media engines are searching out for display ??
Curious what's behind that and if there's a way to control it.

It probably depends on how the displaying app chooses the frame to show. Check in your settings on the app to see if there's an option for you to choose which frame is shown.

My information may be outdated, but it used to be that YouTube picked an image exactly halfway through your video by default, then offered optional choices of an image 25% of the way through, and 75% of the way through. Sometime the image might even be in the middle of a crossfade or transition, for example. I think you are given these three choices for your thumbnail in the video manager screen.

It didn't take long for people to exploit this, putting a one-frame image of a girl in a bikini, for example, at the very middle of the video, so it would appear as the thumbnail.

I think the higher level producers -- the YouTube people with tons of views -- might be give the option to submit any image they want for the thumbnail.

I don't know about the details of thumbnails for other social media, like FaceBook.

I don't know about YouTube but I thought they gave you an option.

I use Vimeo where I can select a frame or even upload an image to be used. But then I'm a VimeoPlus member and don't know if the options are available to non paying members.
