Why Can't I Get Intro-Play to Work...?

Can anyone help?

I'm trying to make DVDs by going from Vegas 4 to DVD-A using the included AC-3 & MP2 templates.

Doing this creates video which works fine in the main program--chapetr points are imported and so on.

However, the exact same methodology seems unable to create Intro Play media. I have the audio & video files specified, and yet the discs just start up at the menu. No Introductory media. They don't play under "Preview All," either.

What am I doing wrong...?

When you open up your DVD-A project and go to File:Properties is the introduction media still listed? Some people have responded that the intro material doesn't always stay. I've had this problem when starting "completely" new projects. My solution has been to just rename existing projects where the intro material does stay.

Also, go to File:Optimize DVD and the intro material should be listed. If it isn't then you need to go back to properties and associate again.

Thanks for the reply.

I've read the posts about the items disappearing; that is not happening for me. I will export two clips from Vegas 4 using the exact same settings (AC3 render and MainConcept MPG2 DVDA export). I pull it all in, both the audio & video show up in the project settings and stay there... Optimize WILL show them, but it just doesn't happen--on Preview All and on test burns, Intro Play just isn't there.

Reopening the project, the Intro items are still properly listed.

If I export the same intro video clip to "normal" MPG (not AC3 audio, but multiplexed audio) then Intro Play works, but Optimize reveals that they will be recompressed. ARGH!

I can't see what I'm doing wrong.

Well I fixed my problem by finally uninstalling DVD-A and reinstalling 1.0b from scratch. My intro media appears to finally be staying even when I start brand new projects. Not a very good response but have you tried uninstalling and re-installing? Took me all of 5 minutes the only hassle was hunting down my DVDA serial #.

The only other thing I can think of is perhaps the settings for you AC3 file aren't what DVDA is looking for. I use the 5.1 DVD audio template and don't change any of the settings. Are you changing any of the settings in the AC3 templates?

Maybe I'll try that. The copy protection on this stuff bugs me, but I'll dig up the number and start from scratch. I wish I could try it on a different PC to eliminate that as the culprit, but again, there's that copy protection.

I use the Stereo AC3 template, for both the intro play and the program material. It works fine for the program, material, but the Intro play doesn't, even with the same settings.

This bug has finally been found and will be fixed in the next update.

The reason this occurs is this: if you check the "Start all new projects with these settings" in the File>Properties dialog, and later on you create a new project but the intro media files do not exist anymore, the project will be in an indeterminate state. Thus the media can never be set from that point on.

With the upcoming fix, your project will be fine though. But for now, to ensure this doesn't happen to you: Reset the intro media (both audio and video) to None and then enable "Start all new projects with these settings". This will make sure new projects aren't created with introduction media.

Then, do not use "Start all new projects with these settings", or at least don't set the Introduction Media unless you are sure the media filename(s) won't be deleted, renamed, moved, etc.

Thanks

Hmm, this can't be why it's happening to me. I have a standard copyright notice that I always use, and the source files haven't been moved or altered. So I did use the "Start all projects with these settings" switch, but only because I knew that the MPG/AC3 files for the Intro Play would always be right there in the root directory of my first Media drive.
