why can't I hear what I just recorded? (not a newbie)

really I'm not a newb. I multitrack in Sonar2. I video edit in Vegas 4. I use a Maudio Quattro using the asio drivers. I need to do a voice over and I got a good signal coming in, selected input monitering so I could hear myself. The audio prefs. are set to the proper audio drivers in and out. When I go back to hear what I recorded I can't hear a thing. The VU meter is pumping away. I opened up another video piece that has music in it and heard it no problem. I am so surprised by this. Any ideas?

to update my own query, I realized that the project file was screwed up. So I rendered an AVI out of the video and opened it up in a new project pulled in audio recorded in Sonar2 and am happily editing. One of these days I need to really check out Vegas for multitracking.

I'm not a "newbie" either, but I'm new to this forum. There are still plenty of questions that I have about Vegas but I've been using it for narration/music work as well as occasional multi-tracking and since I've resolved some resource conflicts with my 1.8GHz P4 Hewlitt Packard, Vegas is working quite well for these tasks. I think you'll like it. Even if I'm doing single track, voice only stuff, I find Vegas easier to edit on than Sound Forge. It does work!

I HAVE BEEN A VEGAS FAN SENCE 2.0 AND EACH VERSION JUST GETS BETTER IT SOME TIMES TAKES TIME TO UNDERSTAND WHY THEY CHANGED THINGS BUT IN THE END IT ALLWAYS MAKES SENCE I DO BOTH VIDEO AND MULTITRACKING!
