Why did you switch to Vegas?

Switched from Premiere because Vegas made it look PATHETIC! Vegas 4.0 is as
powerful as Avid Xpress, if not more so, only a third the price. Or less.
Let me tell you, if they hooked it into Boris FX and made it deal with 24p,
it would be king of the apps for independent filmmakers. PERIOD!!

1) Learning to use Vegas is fun.
2) It's stable.
3) It's got a cool name.

...I switched to Vegas from Premiere, Ulead and Pinnacle because the name was cool...and it was easier to use...and it never crashed...and it was easier and cheaper than learning Macromedia Director...great software, SOFO...

I have used Premiere 6 still have it. To damn complicated. Then Studio 8 deluxe and for the normal user it sucks. I bought Vegas 4 and Dvd and have cut two full DVD's in probably 8 total hours and will get faster. You Don't know how much I enjoyed pushing the uninstall button in XP and making Pinnacle dissapear.

Clipman and musicvid say one of the reasons they switched was because the name was cool (I know, a minor reason, of course). I find it funny because I remember a long discussion on this forum several months ago when a lot of people were complaining about Vegas's lack of market share and one of the reasons, they felt, was that "weird" name.

In all fairness, I think they felt it didn't sound "professional" enough to appeal to experienced video editors. I didn't agree then and don't now. When anything becomes known for it's quality the name takes on a luster associated with that.

It's funny, but I never thought I would be using a system on a home computer. I started editing years ago and built a D1 Abekas component digital suite with Avid Illusion/Matador paint for compositing. I used Avid Xpress for offlining. Times changed, and clients did not want to spend $350 and hour for such facilities. Moved into Corpoarate Communications and had enough of that after 1.5 years and wanted to start my own company. It was a natural to use Avid's DV Xpress with all the bells and whistles (close to $4k) but I was not happy with the Avis codecs and rendering time... so I picked up Final Cut Pro 3 on a Dual 800 Mac G4...I was not at all happy with its performance and its so called real time preview! I had to render effects to see them and re render after I changed them and the keying functionality was not user friendly! I keep it around (and will upgrade to FCP4) for projects originating from film transferred to digital beta. The FCP/SCSI/G4 format will keep it native in its original format. BUT- I edit almost everything on Vegas 3 and have ordered the upgrade package! We shoot on Sony PD 150's and Vegas is the perfect platform for these projects! It is easy to use- right out of the box (never read the manual) and with Photoshop- keyiing is a breeze! Audio is a snap and out performs every NLE I have used. The format is perfect for the half-hour weekly show we produce. The only problem I have..... is bringing in targa image sequences from Lightwave. Not easy in Vegas. I have been opening the image saequences in QT and then importing them into Vegas (they have to be rendered). That and the name "Vegas Video" are its only drawbacks!
