Why do files show as m2t.sfk? With the sfk?

Why do the files show sfk after m2t?

I know sfk are the sound files and normally they are listed by themselves w simply the sfk ending.

I could be mistaken, but I don't ever remember seeing the files listed as m2t.sfk.

I know m2t is the format of the video files.

I was having trouble w the software ms 13 freezing while editing so I was told to eliminate the sfk files off of the drive and I have been doing that (supposedly I had duplicate sfk files causing the crash).

Of course, the sfk files regenerate when ms 13 is reopened.

But I don't recall ever seeing the files ending w m2t.sfk?

I mean, I don't think the files previously were listed with an sfk at the end?

The sound files were simply listed as .sfk - the ones I constantly delete when the software freezes.

I don't remember ever seeing the files listed as m2t.skf?

Somebody please correct me if I get this wrong, but I'm pretty sure the .sfk files are used to hold the waveforms for your audio tracks. When Movie Studio loads a video clip that includes audio, or a pure audio clip (like a wave file), it goes through the entire file and creates the data for the waveform you seen on the screen in your timeline, and saves that data in a companion .sfk file -- which is named the same as the source file, with .sfk on the end.

You can delete the .sfk files if you need to save disk space. If you never open the project or use that media file again, it won't come back. If you open up the project to work on it again -- or use that same media file in another project -- Movie Studio will re-create it.

The "sf" part of the file name probably stands for "Sonic Foundry" -- the company that originally created Vegas before the company was bought out by Sony. (It could also stand for Sound Forge -- their audio editing program.)

NO I know what the sfk files are. I already knew that.

I was asking what the m2t.sfk files are?

"NO I know what the sfk files are. I already knew that."

NO you don't know know what they are.
.sfk files are not sound files.
And the previous respondent is 100% correct.

If the source file is "baloney.m2t" the peak file will be named "baloney.m2t.sfk"
Been that way since Vegas video was introduced fifteen years ago.

A little respect for your peers will go a long way here, just a heads up.

osw, I can't say why you are/were seeing just video.sfk files but the waveform files for .mpg files are .mpg.sfk and the same for .avi video files.... avi.sfk.

It's what allows you to have different formatted video files with the "same" name such as:

baloney.m2t, baloney.mpg, baloney.avi

The extension is part of the filename.

Hence, you get baloney.m2t.sfk, baloney.mpg.sfk, baloney.avi.sfk
