Why does my bum look fat?

How come when I render a project I get black borders at the top and bottom of the picture? My project is DVD PAL 720x576 and looks fine in the preview, then I render to DVD PAL 720x576(No change) and black borders are introduced, which in turn, introduces a slight compression to the height of the picture.
I realise that these borders won't be seen when played back through a TV, but the compressed picture is annoying!

Any ideas, anyone?

Well, PAL is 720x576, not 720x564.

Thanks, type error! But any suggestions as to what's going on in Vegas?

Maybe it's not Vegas; you might want to lay off those ice cream bars for a while.

Sorry; couldn't resist. I don't know much about DVD-A, but is there a setting where it thinks you're trying to display 16x9?

It sounds like at some point in the process that the pixel aspect ratio is set to square (1.0000) pixels instead of PAL DV (1.0926). Check your clips by right-clicking on the clip and going to "Properties" > "Media" tab > "Pixel Aspect Ratio." Make sure they are "PAL DV." Check your project settings and then check the MPEG2 render settings. Make sure that Aspect Ratio is set to "4:3 Display" and not "Square Pixels."
