why doesnt VMS recognize .mod files?

I have VMS Platinum 6.0b

when I try to import my .mod files from my JVC Everio camera VMS doesnt recognize the file format...

I'd hate to have to manually convert 600+ mod files indiviudually to mpegs everytime I'd like to edit....its a real pain.

Would be nice if VMS Platinum just recognizes the file format to begin with...

what to do???????

thanks for your help

Didn't the Everio come with some sort of capture program to bring these in as a less obscure format?

Would be nicer if camera manufacturers wouldn't go "inventing" their own formats that make you jump through hoops to use the files in anyone's software but theirs. ;-) (Previous statement based on an assumption.)

At any rate, far as I know, MODs are MPEG based. Rename them with a *.MPG extention and see if Vegas will open that. If that doesn't work, rename them with a *.M2V one. If that doesn't work, chane them all back.

File -> Run... -> cmd.exe

CD\[whatever folder the MODs files are in]
RENAME *.MOD *.MPG

(Alter as necessary.)

Yeah thanks for the help guys....

yes, JVC included some crappy software but I'd rather use Vegas for my editing....but like I said it doesnt recongize the .MOD files...sigh what a pain to convert 400+ files by hand (loading individually into the converter- MOD-> MPG)

I'll try renaming and see if that works.

thanks for the help again.

another note...anyone know of a good converter .MOD-->.MPG?

Something that can do batch file conversions...?

when I finish shooting I have around 300-600 .mod files from my JVC Everio camera I have to manually convert. It takes about 2-3 hrs just to do the conversions with MPEG Streamclip 1.0.1 ( a free converter I got online)

anyone know of a better one?...

thanks
