Why is preview image so dark?

This is probably a dumb question, but is there any way to lighten the image in my preview monitor? For some reason the video captured to my PC shows up much darker in the preview window than it does on my NTSC monitor.

I know I can set up a filter on the preview window that boosts brightness, but then that slows down my framerate. I'm just curious why everything else on my monitor looks normal, but the video in that preview window is dark.

It sounds like the video is just dark. What does the histogram look like?

Sounds to me like a Hardware Problem. Some gfx cards really have dark overlay.

SonicDennis: The video is normal, and I really do wonder if it is the video card, a TNT64. Three years ago, probably state-of-the-art, but now a dinosaur.

Agreed. VV4 could really use a gamma adjust on the preview overlay. I can raise the brightness on my monitor but then everything else looks too darn bright. I've learned to ignore it and muddle through.

@riredale
it's definitely the TNT64 Card! I had an Asus V3400, kicked it out again because the overlay was so dark.
