Why is Vegas leaving little tails on my clips after Syncing

MarkAnthony121 wrote on 8/30/2023, 4:51 PM

Anyone ever get this issue? These little annoying 1 frames tails occur when I export an XML to Syncaila, export and import the synced XML. Everything is fine except these little tails that cause a noticeable 1 frame to appear when viewing it. Is it a Vegas issue, or Syncaila issue?

Before you open your media file in Vegas, Turn 'Quantize to Frames,' 'Show Unquantized Edges,' and 'Snapping,' to On. If there are red lines at the end of events, zoom in and pull them back to a frame boundary.

When you open your media file in Vegas, choose to 'Set your Project to Match Media.'

Note that the smallest adjustment you can make in a video editor is one frame. There can be no "tweeners," or all heck might break loose.

Thanks again. I turned all this on, current project turned completely red from all unquantized edges. Didn't fix anything within the current project as far as I can tell, but I'll try to keep these settings on when I import next time from Syncaila. I still feel it's a Syncaila thing but I guess I'll see.

Feel free to mark a "Solution" in both threads. Welcome to the Vegas user forum.

@MarkAnthony121 Hi, have a look at your files & see if they are Variable,

Variable frame rate 59.996p on the lower track with a partial end frame, even if I allow Vegas to match the project properties the red unquantized end is there, recoded to Constant 30p on the top track

Not variable. I think the previous suggestion works as a solution for new projects I sync going forward. I don't think it fixes current "tails" but I can deal with. As long as going forward it works. I tried it on one project and absolutely no red in the project, no tails at all. BUT I'll have to try with different camera footage as well before I can definitively mark this as a solution.

@MarkAnthony121 Ok 👍

Here's just an observation, this file is a 29.97p Constant clip, but added to a 30p timeline it doesn't 'fit' correctly leaving a partial end frame, logical but like i say just a observation.

I turned all this on, current project turned completely red from all unquantized edges. Didn't fix anything

Correct. Turning on those switches "after the fact" in a current project does not automatically fix anything.

Before you open your media file in Vegas,......

Start with a fresh project with the correct settings, and re-introduce the media one at a time. Then, if there are red edges, you need to fix them individually, as suggested. In that case, you would definitely have a look at your source media.

Or, you can downlad Vegasaur, a paid third party scripting solution. Best of luck.

Being able to quantize every event at once is a nice feature of Vegasaur.

Project Inspector will also fix those. It's free but you need to install Excalibur to get it. Or you might look at this tutorial:

After fixing the trailing frames on several events, you need to close the gaps. Using Vegas' Close Gaps may not work. That is, it won't be an option even though you have gaps. And sometimes you end up with a mess if you do use it. I ended up using Vegasaur to close gaps.

In Vegas 21, and I know this has come up before, but if your project is set to 29.97 fps and then you drag all your thousands of media clips with 59.94 fps from the media pool to the empty timeline, you'll be prompted with "Do you want to set your project video settings to match this media." What you should do is say "Cancel," but that option doesn't exist. If you say either Yes or No there is going to be trouble. Before dragging media to the timeline, manually change your project settings to the correct fps. If you don't, there will be one blank frame between media you just dragged to the timeline. You should drag only one clip to the timeline at first. And when the project fps has been set correctly, drag the remaining clips to the timeline all at same time. Just because you don't see "Red" doesn't mean that all is okay. This doesn't have to do with unquantized frames. If you right-click on the empty spot on the timeline, "Close Gaps" may not be on the menu, depending on what else is on the timeline. That's because there is a bug. Of course, if you mix media with different fps on the timeline, good luck.
