Why would data files become corrupt

VV Users,

I have recently just experienced my most disturbing and frustrating experience with my editing system. I was working on a project in post production and everything was working just fine.

Came into work the next day and began to experience chaos. Vegas files would not open, media player could not play *.avi files or other rendered projects. If it did I would gete mosiac nose and everything. This did not set well for me and checked data on all other HD, they are fine.

II have experienced this on only 1 hard drive and I have had to start over. What may have caused this?

Let me know if you need more data on they system etc.

Thanks,

Chad

Hard drive fragmentation, bad spots on the drive, failing drive, voltage spike, voltage dip...lotsa things could take a file down. Is the veg or .bak version of the veg capable of opening? If necessary, you should be able to recapture the media.

I always recommend a thorough disc scan when bizarre stuff happens. Be sure to check the 'Fix errors' option.

I appreciate the feedback. I actually experienced the problem after doing a defrag, that may be related to the problem.]

Thanks again.
