My trusty old backpack writer is all worn out,I went to Best Buy yesterday to pick up a new plextor ,but they where out-
The one sales guy was pushing the Hp movie writer machine,
I guess it has plug-ins on it to convert anolog easier .
I was also looking at aTDK.
Another sales guy was all about a Liteon??? but at that piont another shopper came over to tell me she has had very bad luck with them -so I left another store another day-
I do need a external -but I would really like to hear what you all like-

I bought the LG multi-format burner and a USB 2.0 drive enclosure and made my own. Thus far, I'm extremely happy with it. It burns all DVD formats.

I have a Memorex internal and I agree with the post that suggest buying a USB or Firewire enclosure and make your own. That way you can swap the DVD burner out for another HD if you want sometime. Externals are more expensive and I believe if you shop online you can find the enclosure and burner combined for the same or less than the cost of the external burner. If burners improve speed wise or other in the future you can just swap our the drive in the enclosure rather than buying a new derive.

I remember when CD burner started coming out first 1X then 2X then 12X now 50X+ and the price keeps getting cheaper. I would rather have been able to just swap out those burners than buy a whole new external when ever my old burner was too slow to cope with.
