Widescreen Problem

Having worked exclusively in 720v480 to date, I need some quick help!

I have a clip, shot standard DV with "widescreen" black bars at the top and bottom...not true widescreen, but the consumer version.

I need to get this clip to DVD so it will play widescreen on compatible monitors, but still size up properly on 4:3 systems.

I guess I could test till I got it right, but I was hoping someone could save me some time.

Many "thank you's" in advance.

Create a new widescreen DV project. Drop the fake widescreen clip on the timeline. In Pan/Crop right-mouse-button click in the cropping frame and choose "match output aspect". This will convert the video into true widescreen. Well, almost ... It will now have 360 lines of resolution instead of 480 so it will be a bit softer than real widescreen. Render using one of the DVDA widescreen templates. Create the DVD in DVDA using a widescreen template.

That should give you the same format as commercial "enhanced for 16:9" widescreen DVDs.
