WILDFX OR WILDFX PRO?

epirb wrote on 7/30/2004, 4:32 PM
Theres a couple text effect's I like in these programs, I know I could probably do them in Bluff or even Vegas itself but , if I can knock them out quick in wildfx its worth the 38 buck's.
I saw the other posts on wildfx but can they be done in the basic exported as
swf's or do I need to go the pro version and export as Avi's.
Also has anyone who uses it gotten the formatt down to where it works wehn they're imported into Vegas.(either the swf's or avi's in pro)

I got the Pro and the added FX package. Their Support tab has a coupla pretty good tutorials on how to get the most out.

e.g. http://www.wildform.com/tutorials/flashtovideoquality/?sid=36H8-EBBD-40c6449322ce2&ref=

I'm using Intel 4.4 codec with quality set to Best, 29.97 fps, 720x480, etc. Even get a straight alpha channel (see the tutorials). You're right, you can knock off some pretty impressive stuff very quickly indeed. HTH, Darryl

thanks D,
Ive been messing with the demo, I tried your settings, and looking at the tutorial, but I cant get an alpha channel and the resolution seems pretty blocky. I'm assuming that it may be that some of those features are just locked out on the demo.(I hate when they do that, I dont mind the X on a demo export, but I'd like to see a fuuly functional output to see if its what I am expecting)
Do yours turn out good quality avi's?

I found QT, Animation, Million + to be the best setting (make sure transparency is checked).

For the $130 bucks (including the Power pack), this is a nice little program. Has some limitations and really feels more like a Flash tool at times, but it's worth it, IMO.

Has any one who has Wildfx pro had this happen.
export as either avi or mov to my system drive, works fine to import into vegas.
If I export to my external firewire drive, go to import into Vegas I get an error message saying "could not import EDL file "(summerized ) ,Plus when I highlight the .mov file , in the box below it shows file type as" CMX3600 EDL:Avid/Final"
All my settings are the same I'm just changing file locations, Kinda funky huh?
Anybody else seen this?

Zoinks! I noticed something else, when that happens!
It also clears my timeline!!
if I look at the undo pull down its trying to import an edl !
DGrob wrote on 7/31/2004, 8:31 AM
No. But I'll give it a try and advise. Darryl

Later, no problem with my external render and import into Vegas. BTW, I tried the optimized QT mentioned and it's a fine looking image. Darryl

Another update:
I copy and paste the known good file to the firewire drive, getthe same decription ie: EDL
copy it to my external usb2.0 storage drive, works fine
copy it to my second internal HD works fine too.
Must be something with my firewire drive?
Weird.

UPDATE
FOUND IT!!!
I remember reading a post a few days back about trying to import a file with the word TITLE (caps)in it! Well guess what... My files title didnt have title in it, but the folder was named WILDFX TITLE. Seems even if the folder has the cap word title in it it changes the file properties!
I copied and pasted to a different folder without the cap "title" word works fine .....create a folder with the "posessed" word TITLE in it, and it screws it up!
I'm gonna submitt it a a bug report to maybe supplement the other one.

Congrats. I just learned something.

Re transparency in WildFX. Having checked the transparent background option and exported - in Vegas don't forget to right click the media, properties, media tab, selected "straight" alpha setting at the bottom of the tab page. Darryl
epirb wrote on 7/31/2004, 10:33 AM
I was wondering if there is a way to set that as a default(alpha channel, straight) for imported media
Maybe with the shift/preferences thing, so you dont have to select it each time.

Thanks for the help, I just upgraded to the pro version too.

Quick question, the alpha w/quicktime works (thx for all the tips, I never wouldve gotten the right click media fix) ...

But, when I import into vegas, it just shows one brief second of flash text when I do the alpha effect.. how can I slow down or extend the time that it takes to display the text, when I overlay it in Vegas?

change the frame rate, or...? I'd like it to look like it does in the wildfx preview box, when imported into the vegas timeline..

thx!

ken

Ken,
Just having got it myself today and experimenting with it, try these things.
I have been selecting on the video tab the check for inserting frames at the end. I have been setting it to 180 frames for most titles, you could try selecting the "est actual frames" as well , but Ive had better luck with the 180 setting. then when I import into Vegas you can do a couple things
1 is use control drag and or just drag the clip length, to set the length.
2 I've also been exprimenting with velocity envelopes on the clip to enhance /stretch the effect portion if the clip.I suppose you can set the velocity to 0 when the title is displayed if you want with the clips you already have.
just a thought HTH's

Another thing, you like the title effect, but want the words static at the begining then animate? then try reveresing it in Vegas for a whole new way to use it.I've been having fun with that too.
DGrob wrote on 7/31/2004, 1:55 PM
Ken. I make sure my frame rate is 29.97. I add 15 frames to the front end for a half second delay. I check the insert ("frames to end" left blank) and check "estimate actual duration" box.

You can also play with the "letter" and "line" delays on the Main tab to play with the pace of the evolving effect.

eprib. Cool idea to use velocity envelopes to further customize.

Excellent, thanks for the tips, those all sound useful, will experiment with them. Anybody try using vegas' built in chromakey effect vs transparency?

Ken. I did for a while. It'll work, but some of the FX involve multi colors and the effects would degrade. Just been doing alpha since. Darryl

This "TITLE" thing is bleeding into other areas too - eh?

DGrob wrote on 8/1/2004, 6:09 AM
Grazie! Yeah, isn't that a curious thing? Next we'll discover that using the wrong font makes it all go kablooey, or some such nonsense.

Finally got you at the chat room and had to dash off. Maybe next time. Darryl
