Will Vegas Accept Videos from a Sony Webbie

Hello,

I have been trying to import videos from my RCA smallwonder with no luck. I have read all the different ways to convert files etc. i am still having trouble and am wondering if it would just be easier for me to get the SONY webbie mini camcorder much like the flip, smallwonder, etc....do you think that this would solve my issues? do you think that vegas would easily accept sony webbie video files since they are both sony? please help!!!!

thanks!

I've heard of no issue with Sony Webbie files in Vegas.

If you can upload a short clip of your RCA video somewhere, we "should" be able to help you open it in Vegas.

EDIT: The website says your files are H.264/AVI. That means you should download and install the x264vfw codec from SourceForge. Let us know how it works.

Hi,

Thanks for your help. I installed a codec program and converting each video takes 10+ minutes and I wasn't even sure what to do once the files were converted. I am not too savvy with this stuff; I am just trying to get my foot in the door with it all and have a little fun with it. I am jsut hoping that if I got a SONY camcorder, this will eliminate going through all the trouble...

Installing x264vfw "should" enable you to open the files directly in Vegas. It is a codec, not a conversion "program."

If you have installed conversion or codec programs, I don't believe this is needed, and I won't be able to offer you any support there.
You may find the information linked below educational. Good luck.

Without additional CODECS or modifications or hacks, Vegas Movie Studio does read the output of the Webbie camcorders. It even gets the audio correct. The frame rate of preview is poor but that is expected.

The files are standards compliant unlike so many other mp4 h.264 camcorders.

Yes, I agree. Why not use Sony's native codecs that have been provided and also receive technical support.

Guess you didn't understand the original post. The topic-starter does not have a Webbie, was merely inquiring about it as an alternative.

Downloading x264vfw was necessary to open the h.264/AVI files from their RCA pocket cam. Sony does not support this type of file natively.

I just bought a webbie and my Vegas 6 will not read the mpeg4 files it produces.

Do I need an upgrade?

I don't believe your version supports h.264/AVC video.
