Now that is very intriguing. Thanks JR!

So what exactly can you do in "God Mode"? When you click on the shortcut, what are you gonna find??
Chienworks wrote on 1/19/2013, 9:07 AM
Did you try it? It's probably faster for you to do it yourself than for anyone to explain it, but it does do exactly what JohnnyRoy says.

JR, that is the find of the (new) century.
JohnnyRoy wrote on 1/19/2013, 3:14 PM
Yea, I've been using it since I first started using Windows 7. It doesn't work in XP and I'm not sure about Vista but Windows 7 & 8 are working.

> "So what exactly can you do in "God Mode"? When you click on the shortcut, what are you gonna find??"

It places every tweak in a single grouped list instead of all the nested menus and windows that you would normally have to go through to get to them. You can make the folder on your desktop and rename it and it works as well. It's very convenient and built right into Windows itself.

Oh, and I almost forgot to warn you:

Yeah , a bit like XP Control Panel, but with everything you could imagine available.

Great article I accidentally came across yesterday.

They investigate several utilities that make W8 look more like W7, and conclude that something called "StartIsBack" is by far the nicest one.

We need one of these "gods" in Vegas.

ALL Tweaks: GPU ON/OFF; VSTs and Access; in fact Prefs in one place

ALL Project Settings in one place

ALL File and Folder Settings in one place: Project; Audio Record; Temp; . . . . .

ALL . . . . . . . in one place

Can you be a bit more specific "In the root of C"?

Chienworks wrote on 1/20/2013, 8:00 AM
"root" means at the top level of the drive directory structure. So, create this directory:

C:\God Mode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

That was just a suggestion. You can make a folder on your desktop and rename it and get the same thing.

Got it. It works fine in Win7 32 bit.

Works in Vista too. Brilliant...so much power at my fingertips LOL :-) I'm not putting it on the family laptop though!
Arthur.S wrote on 1/21/2013, 6:59 AM
Oh oh! NOW I'm in the poo!! Tried this on my 64bit Vista too - and things have gone a bit wobbly. :-( As soon as I renamed the new folder, the C:/ window shut down back to the desktop. Everything is still working fine, but I can no longer open/view my C:\ drive. as soon as I click on it, the window closes. Tried safe mode, but still the same. Any ideas out there?
Arthur.S wrote on 1/21/2013, 10:00 AM
OK, FYI...tried to delete using the command prompt. Kept getting "can't find directory". I've long since forgotten DOS, so I was probably doing this wrong. Did a search of the registry for {ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}. Took a deep breath and deleted it. Re-booted (holding breath) It worked. :-) C:\ opened. I deleted the folder. All back to normal. Phew!

W8 does not suport firewire (1394) in legacy mode. If you need to use tape there may be a problem.

Found this workaround.

Get yourself access to a Windows 7 computer, if you are running Win8 32bit then you need Win 7 32bit, if you are running Win8 x64 you need files from a Win7 x64 computer.

Locate these files from a Windows 7 machine:

c:\windows\inf\1394.inf
c:\windows\inf\1394.pnf
c:\windows\system32\drivers\1394bus.sys
c:\windows\system32\drivers\1394ohci.sys
c:\windows\system32\drivers\ohci1394.sys

Copy all these files into a folder of your choice on your Windows 8 computer.

Then follow this guide on how to reboot without driver signing enabled: http://www.windows7hacker.com/index.php … -windows-8

Once you have rebooted with driver signing disabled you can proceed.

You can then go into Device Manager:
1. Expand IEEE 1394 Host Controllers
2. Right click on your firewire controller and choose Update Driver Software
3. Click "Browse My Computer for Driver Software"
4. Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
5. Click Have Disk
6. Click Browse
7. Browse to the folder where you placed the Win7 FW drivers and click Open.
8. You can then install the 1394 OHCI (Legacy) driver.
9. Windows will warn you about unsigned drivers, just accept and continue the install.

You will need to reboot, most certainly using the unsigned driver / advanced boot method from the link above.

"W8 does not suport firewire (1394) in legacy mode."

If one upgrades from Win 7 to Win 8 ( not clean install but upgrade) will the firewire work?

Being that it worked in Win 7 I figure it will not then be disabled in Win 8?

Seems not. (After reading through eightforums).

Reported that Rosewill RC-506E comes with a signed W8 driver set and hooks up to HDV tape camcorders & music decks. Available from Newegg/Amazon. Not located one in UK so will stay with W7. May SP1 may resovle matters as there are many requests for this driver.

"W8 does not suport firewire (1394) in legacy mode."

Wait a second, not sure what "legacy mode" means in this case but I've used firewire extensively to ingest from two different sony cameras into two different w8 "clean" installations. No extra drivers, nothing, just turned on camera for first time and the PC works like it has for years. Just tried it seconds ago to double check, in vegas 12, video capture 6.0 launches and acts exactly the same as it did 10 years ago. I just tried it in Adobe Premiere CS6 as well, same, works perfectly. Just tried using firewire out as preview monitor in Vegas 12, again works exactly the same as it always has. I did not have to add any drivers to w8 for firewire, standard VIA 1394 ochi compliant host controller that got added during the clean install. btw, both sony cameras were tape based, on a dv cam, the other hdv.
diverG wrote on 1/23/2013, 11:44 AM
That's reassuring. The operative word must be 'clean'.

Dual booted this end with W7 pro & 8 Pro. Hvr-A1e & Hvr-hc3e (Pal). Both fire up under W7 using either VP12 or Edius 6.52. On the W8 install via update neither cams function but the programmes will open & pick up project from data drive.

Also having issues with virtual mode using XP. Not got my head round it yet but things may pan out if I install XP from disc onto the virtual machine.

Legacy driver was old firewire OHC1 driver that is not installed by default with W7 but is often needed.

A little more firewire info... I have 4 systems in the house with firewire, 3 are clean installs and as it turns out all 3 have different chipsets and all work in vegas. My desktop is a via chipset, my laptop is a ricoh and my old desktop which I use mostly for testing and ingesting has a TI chipset. All were clean w8 installs. The only "unclean" install I've done is on my livingroom multimedia machine which I did not think had firewire, I just booted it up and it does, and it's a different chipset as well, it's an LSI and it is recognized by the system at least. Will have to plug in a camera to see if I get the tell-tale beep. Will report back later.
ddm wrote on 1/23/2013, 11:44 PM
due dilligence, I plugged my old sony dv camera into the firewire port of my media computer with the LSI chipset and I watched as the system went from recognizing it as an av/subunit to finally a sony dv cam as an imaging device. Don't have vegas on that machine but my guess is it works. That's on my one and only "unclean" install of w8
