Win 8 + DVDA 6 = instant crashes?

Mortlake wrote on 3/3/2013, 11:07 AM
Anybody else seeing this?
DVDA 6.0 crashes directly on startup, i.e. no chance to see or analyze what´s wrong apart from the crash-report created. DVDA 5.2 worked fine on the same system.

Some people are claiming at DVDA 6 is not usable. I have used it once. Do you have version 5? You might want to go back to it.

Unless you want to work with 3D, drop 6 and go back to 5.2. There's no other advantages with 6, and it's unstable - as you've found out the hard way.

Thanks guys!

Seems like a return to 5.2 is the best solution then.

I got an answer from Sony´s support which basically means:
uninstalling DVDA-6
cleaning away it´s associated folders
creating a new admin account
reinstalling & registering DVDA-6 under it
then deleting the test-admin account if DVDA-6 works on the normal user account

I´ll try this and post my results later.

No luck so far, i.e. I´m returning to 5.2.

Oddly enough, while reading the crash-report DVDA showed up behind it, but was closed down as soon as I hit the "Don´t send"-button.

The solution was posted just above, six months ago.

Does anyone know more about these issues and if Sony is actively working to address the general stability problems in DVDA6? I'm in a similar situation, but bought this specifically for its stereoscopic 3D burning capabilities, so I cannot go back to an earlier version. I need this one.

FWIW, I've tried Windows 7 as well as Windows 8, so the stability problems don't look specific to just Windows 8.

In my case, the program crashes upon importing 3D AVC/MVC files (which read fine in Vegas Pro 12). I've tried creating a separate Administrator account (as the support team suggested above) with no success. I've also tried setting up a brand new install of Windows, fresh, with only DVDA6 installed (and no other special editing software/fancy codec packages to interfere) and the same exact thing happens.

If anyone has any suggestions/workaround, or knows more about this issue, any help would be appreciated.

Finally got around to reading more of the posts in this forum regarding the stability (or lack thereof) of DVD Architect Pro 6. Sorry to the folks who frequent these forums, if this topic has been hammered to death.

I'm amazed that the release has been out this long (almost a year now?) yet these issues have not been addressed. So many people reporting the same problems. Clearly I overestimated Sony's ability to deliver on what their products advertise they're supposed to do. If we're unable to generate 3D Blu-ray from this product then it makes the whole release of v6 useless, as that was its primary upgrade.

These are serious red flags, IMO, no doubt will I think twice before considering a purchase of Sony software in the future.

Hi!

Might be a bit late to reply, but today I encountered the same problem and realized I had just uninstalled an Apple compatibility software that was installed magically with Apple Quicktime. After that, DVD A Pro 6 would not even start, displaying the above error. So I uninstalled Quicktime (process which displayed an awful kill yourself type of crash, with absolutely no consecuences) and reinstalled it, and problem solved as instantly as it arrived.

Any comments?

BTW: Win 8.1
