Windows 11

DMT3 wrote on 1/1/2026, 9:03 AM

Like many, I have been holding off installing Windows 11 mainly because I am concerned about some compatible programs. One of my computers is eligible for upgrade, the other does not meet requirements although I have found many workarounds to install anyway. What has been your experience with Windows 11? Have you lost use of any programs (if so, could you name them)? Has your experience learning W11 been smooth and do you feel, worthwhile? Thanks for any feedback you can provide.

I now have Windows 11 on both my systems and VEGAS (and everything else I use) is the same as 10.

Thanks for both of your responses. I upgraded my eligible computer to 11 and it went extremely well. Everything seems to work as normal. Not sure about trying the older system, but I made a backup so I might give it a go.

I upgraded to W11 not long after its release - both laptop and desktop. I can't think of a problem with the difference between W10 and W11 other than the way they display and some feature differences - certainly no issues with Vegas Pro other than more recently one issue. A clean install of W11 24H2 or later does not include AC-3 decoding - with Vegas Pro, AC-3 decoding is only available in VP22 builds 248 or 250 or in VP23 - because Vegas added an AC-3 decoder to address the loss in Windows 11. I'm not sure if upgrading to W11 25H2 from W10 constitutes a clean install but would think that it does.

Upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 wasn't so easy because some hardware (like a brilliant HP laser printer and another brand scanner) didn't update their driver's to W10.

BTW, Microsoft announced at the time of releasing W10 back in 2015 that W10 would be the last ever version of Windows - there would only be updates henceforth. But here we are with W11 and even rumours of W12 on the way at some indefinite time in the future.

Did your computer that had 8.1 meet the requirements for Windows 11, or did you force the upgrade?

No ... that was an old i7-4770 computer from 2014 which I rarely use these days. It stays on W10 and is now disconnected from the internet due to the cessation of W10 support.

Okay. I backed up my old computer and will try W11 to see what happens. Thanks for everybody's input.
