Windows 2000 & External Firewire Harddrive

I have 2 pc's I use with Vegas for editing. One is a Win98SE and the other is Win2000. I have a 80 Gig QPS M3 external firewire harddrive with a series of Vegas .avi files on it. I can connect the M3 to my Win98 machine and all the files play beautifully. I hook the same drive to my Win2000 machine and none of the files will play (the harddrive light stays on all the time and the computer locks up). Both pc's have Pyro firewire cards. Anyone have any ideas?

Good thinking, but both computers "see" the files; it's just that the Win2000 will not play them (even with Windows Media Player) ???

Another good guess except that I can copy a file from the firewire harddrive to my c drive and then it plays perfectly.
