Windows updates and Platinum 15 crashes (a lot)

barry-doublet wrote on 10/12/2018, 3:01 AM

Window 10 had an update this week (I believe on the 9/10/18) and now now Movie Studio 15 Platinum is tripping out.

During the course of a day, it froze in a non responsive way and I was force to close the programme as it did not resolve itself during 10 minutes. Already, this morning, in my first hour of working it has frozen two more times.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Which update was it? The apparently troublesome big October update or the usual monthly? What's your Version and Build numbers?

barry-doublet wrote on 10/12/2018, 3:53 AM

Windows update 1803

Platinum 15 build 146

Actually I meant your Windows Version and Build.

I'm on Windows 10 Home Version 1803 OS Build 17134.345. It hasn't given me any problems with Vegas MSPlat 15 Build 146.

I have discovered a pattern.

I edit while the preview is running. Cropping and deleting. The crash seems to happen when I delete a scene while in play mode.

I have the same build as you

It's not my style for edits, but this is here on laptop from signature no problem at all.

j-v, That is exactly how I edit, from time to time. And that's when I have a frame rate problem (frame number 56677....) before the screen locks and nothing works. Window say that the programme in "not responding." Then I have to use the task manager to shut it down.

j-v wrote on 10/12/2018, 8:27 AM

Is it possible to trigger it again and, before shutting down, make a screenshot of the taskmanager with next settings (=memory selected) and show it here like mine?

Here it is

I can't find something wrong on that, nothing is overloaded, but you did not selected the memorymodule.
But, as far as I can see the memory is not the problem.
Is the program everytime freezing at the same frame number?
What kind of project you use so we can see the time on frame number 56677....?

Nope, it's not a memory problem.

There is no particular frame number associated with the crash. The 56677.... was just an example because there would always be a .... after the frame number to show that it was struggling to display the preview.

Funny this, this time (note to the screen image above) is that I had deleted some frames and then moved some. Went to play back this edit, and it froze.

Did you already tried to restore the machine to just before the Windows update?

I have no time. Plus I'm expecting a new PC soon. But for now, I have to work with the tools I have.

barry-doublet wrote on 11/12/2018, 8:01 AM

Ok. New, super fast PC...Same problem.

I can be editing on the fly, and as soon as I delete a clip...The programme stops responding. It turns a misty white and remains like that until I close it down. And then it loads from the last back up.

Totally frustrating it I forget to manually save every two minutes.😖
