Wondershare -- no more

In the past, I've used Wondershare products, some of them actually useful and nicely designed. On Sept. 24, I downloaded DVD Creator, free on GAOTD. What I got was unsolicited popup advertising, and Wondershare "phoning home" every time I started my computer. I found a stealth "helper" application in startup that I had not been asked permission to install, nor had I consented to.

A system restore took care of it, and cured my interest in their products for good. I must now retract any previous recommendations or suggestions regarding Wondershare I have made to other users on these forums, and apologize for any violation of trust that I may have innocently encouraged.

Best,
Mark aka musicvid

Thanks for the heads-up MV.
Unfortunately that's common these days, to install another app., toolbar or 'utility' with little, or no notice, or options. If there are options there often hidden. I always do 'custom' installs if possible.

Musicvid, I think I can say it is likely that your link was bugged - because I dealt directly with corporate just this week and have had a respectful relationship. Sometimes these things happen as you well know - even the best of monitored sites get infected by bots.

Sorry to hear, but I think it was an unusual experience on your specific link.

My understanding is that GAOTD uses checksums to monitor each download, however the number of adware/trackware complaints has risen this year. May suggest a trend among the software companies themselves.
