...word of caution on frame sizes...

..I do odd size clips fairly regularly...400X200 ...360X180...and so on, to fit tables in web pages and multimedia projects...everything went well in VV...I could render them fine in multiple formats and use all the VV codecs....the other day I made one clip at 377X190...although I could output an uncompressed .avi file, the rest crashed the program...mpeg1&2, wmv kept shutting down the app...I thought my codecs were trashed...I spent over 6 hours re-installing everything and tore my hair out trying to figure out what was wrong...well, it was the 377 size...I boosted the 377 by 3 pixes to 380 and presto...no more crashes...for those of you who weren't aware, don't use odd number frame sizes...for those of you who were aware, quit laughing at me...

I couldn't even get the MPEG encoder to let me put in those screen sizes, whenever I put in the 377 and then went to the other box it changed the number so I'm not even sure how you were able to get those numbers in there and start a render. The only format I got to work was Quicktime and I put in 377X190 and rendered out a 5 minute sample clip and everything worked fine.

Certain codec's MUST be a multiple of a certain number (4 or 8 i belive). Mpeg is one of them. That's why it wouldn't work. I belive the codec will normaly tell you if it requires a certain size in it's help file (if it has a help file!).

Jsnkc,

...always use the "custom" dialogue box and select "project settings" as your template....avi and mov files will take any size you give it, odd numbers as well....the rest just crash and burn....
