Workflow for a wannabe colorist wanted

I am making a movie, I started to shoot four months ago and am still not done. Indoors, outdoors, dark shadows, bright sky, green-screen and some Computer generated images to boot.

If this weren't enough, I started as a complete beginner and have gained experience on my way, thereby adjusting my Panasonic HMC 151 using all knobs and wheels it is equipped with.

I now render my scenes, one by one in Vegas. I also own After Effects, and use it to some extent, when I have the time to wait for it rendering frame by frame at 1fps..

I would like tips on workflows for getting a coherent overall look and feel regarding the color. Firstly, I when layering and rendering my scenes, I want to take the "colorist" job into account already here, without painting myself into a corner. With this I mean that I, when all scenes are compiled, can change the overall look of the movie.

I have not decided on "video-look", "Film-look A" or "Film-look B", greenish, bluish, warm, cold or such things. I just would like to hear how you guys do it, where in the process you would attack this task (too late for the footages) and with what tools.
