Working with QT MOV Files in Vegas 10

I work with FCP editors. I've got a QT MOV, MPEG-4 ProRes file I'd like to work with, make a few minor changes. Width 960 Ht. 720, Display Aspect Ratio is 16x9, Frame rate 29.970, Audio 48 kHz/24-bit. I'm working on a Win 7 Home, 64 bit version 6.01.7601 Service Pack 1. i5 processor running 750@2.6.7 GHz.. My QuickTime is Version 7.7.3. Running Vegas 10.0e Build 738 64 bit. I bought but haven't installed Vegas Pro 12.

I'm and producer and do only really basic editing so far. Right now I've got a DVD project to deliver to a client using the ProRes file above. It's not displaying as 16x9 in the preview window. Help. Thanks.

Are you sure the source aspect is 16:9? 960x720 is a 4:3 ratio. Anamorphic isn't "normally" used at 720p.

If your project properties are set correctly ("Match Media Settings") and it is still not the correct preview aspect (with "simulate device aspect" checked), you may have to go into Project Media Properties and set the aspect manually.

You can, of course, fill the output aspect at time of render. Having the preview aspect correct is not an absolute necessity.

Thank you!! Your reply caused me to check the media properties settings (right click on media in the time line), where I found that "Maintain Aspect Ratio" was checked. When I unchecked that, preview became normal 16x9. The original was shot with Panasonic HVX 200 (P2 card) @ 1280x720. I expected that in the rendered MOV file. When the show of 18 minutes was rendered out to the 8Gb ProRes file I got from my editor, Media Info showed 960x720 pixels. I still don't understand that, but all is good now. I've got a lot to learn.
