Worth it to Buy Vegas 5.0?

NuOmegaAlpha wrote on 3/25/2004, 7:48 AM
Hey, I've currently got Vegas 4 on my computer and it works like magic. I've been making the greatest, most intensely realistic movie-like videos (I also shoot with a Canon GL2). So, with that said, do you think it's really worth it to upgrade to Vegas 5? Sure, it probably has some newer features, filters, and whatnot -- but do you think (since I am still an independent film maker) that it's worth the price tag until it goes down in price (hopefully by the end of summer)?

Any thoughts welcome.

The answer to this question, grasshopper, is completely unknowable until we know the complete feature set and upgrade price.

Hold your horses.

Grasshopper??? Okay, thanks anyway.

Grasshopper, the nickname given to a young Kwai Chang Caine by Master Po when Caine was learning the ways of Kung Fu; early 70's TV series staring David Carradine.

I never get people asking should I upgrade, when nobody aside from the developers and beta testers know what's in the upgrade.

We'll see.

Asking should you upgrade BEFORE we know what's in the upgrade is like asking should you take your umbrella with you on June 10th. I don't know. :-)

When you can snatch the pebble from my hand, you can do ripple editing in Vegas.

So that's the trick to getting ripple editing down pat. :)

I get the feeling the answer to that question will be YES!

Rumors I have had heard looks like it will be a nice upgrade.

Of course, the features they add, you may not need right away, so that is your call.

What price ???????? whatever it is I doubt if it goes down,,,, more likely up after initial early upgrade specials

For Vegas 4 didn't they give V3 owners a great pre-order upgrade price? I upgraded from V3LE, and it was $299 a year ago. Of course NOW you can get V4 for around $300 brand new, but this was direct from SoFo the day it came out (and the LE upgrade went to $399 after V4 was released).

Surely the prices should reduce after R&D & programming costs have been met so as to expand the user base?

Just my pennies worth

That's kind of like a toll road actually being paid off... :)

The tradition with upgrades (or new versions) from the SoFo people is that you get a very good price offer for an introduction period, usually a couple of months or so. After that, you still get a special upgrade price when you own an earlier version. I just hope the servers can handle the amount of downloads reasonably.
