WOT: HXR-NX5 Vs PMW-EX1R

Seriously off-topic, and I apologise in advance, but I am seeking the thoughts of the wise men and women of this forum with regard to the two cameras in the title.

I would dearly love to get an EX1R but they are big bikkies and I'm wondering whether the HXR-NX5 is value for money (at around $3000.00 Aussie cheaper) or is it just too much of a compromise?

Bear in mind that I do videography purely as a hobby to record my travels and do not make any money from any of my productions.

I will eventually buy one or the other but without the ability to actually pick one up and use it, I'm flying blind.

I strongly encourage you, if you haven't already, to download and use the Sony XDCAM EX Clip Browser v.2.6. (Edited)

Start now getting into the habit of saving your BPAV folder. This is your "camera original" files. Do not change the name of the folder(s). They can be saved in folders with project specific names.

You should also consider ordering Doug Jensen's excellent EX1 Field Guide. On his site he states:

"There are no plans to publish a new Field Guide book for the PMW-EX1R. So, if you want to carry a Field Guide in your EX1R camera bag, we highly recommend getting the PMW-EX1 Field Guide because 99% of the information in the book applies to both cameras. Although there are differences between the two cameras, particularly in the order of the menu screens, those differences should be obvious when you use the book.
