How about $9.00 US per gallon? Any of you paying that?
Not even close to that Grazie :-)
1 U.S. gallon = 3.78 litres.
1 CDN (Imperial) gal. = 4.55 litres.
My wife (who works in the U.S.) pays around $3 per gal.( $2.02 EUR)
Where I'm at in Canada (Windsor, Ontario), gas is currently $1.05 per litre ($0.71 EUR).
When I first started working full-time in 1974, gas was $0.45 CDN. per gallon - and I thought that was high :-(
Keep in mind that inflation has really changed things--when my dad paid $0.49 a gallon for gas back when I was a kid, his "pain" was similar to today.
Here's a chart showing inflation-adjusted gasoline prices. Sorry it's not more legible.
EDIT: Here in Oregon we're paying about $3.10 for a gallon of gas. Oregon is one of only two states that don't allow self-service, so that's probably $0.05 per gallon markup right there.
Scroll and smile.
Smile and scroll.
Who says nostalgia isn't what it used to be ?
Oh,----and full service!
Remember that?
Check the oil sir?
And the smartly dressed attendent cleaned the wind shield without being asked.
And they are pumps not pump heads.
New Jersey doesn't allow self service either. However, the full service prices in NJ seem to average about 20 to 50 cents cheaper than self serve prices in NY.
I can remember paying about 28 cents (US) per gallon when i was a little kid. The same gas station down the street from me now charges about $3.40 for the low grade stuff.
"and with Global Warming we is sure paying for it now - yeah?"
Well not as much as some would have us think.
Using hydrocarbons as a fuel isn't as bad as burning coal and I happen to live in one of the worlds largest coal burning and exporting countries. Thanks to a change of government last week we'll finally be signing Kyoto.
PLEEEAAASSSEEE, there was nothing political in this post to begin with. It was some pictures of old gas stations that reminded me of pleasant childhood memories. I thought it would do the same for others my age. Let's NOT drag politics into it now.
If you people want to talk politics, start another tread.
When I was a teen, gas was 25¢ per gallon and a subway [or bus) ride was 15¢. Today gas is $3.29 and a subway ride $2.00. I see no substantial difference.
Can't compare different states, since they each add their own taxes, and of course transportation costs are different, too.
People here in Oregon pride themselves on being different just for the sake of being different. You can argue logic, statistics, and math to them all day and it just makes them mad.
But there's no disputing that those gas jockeys at the pump are being paid by SOMEONE. That someone is us.
