Just got my first job to edit a 2 camera mix for the band Marrilion, if the band are happy etc they may release it as a DVD!
Have done a couple of concert 2 cam mixes in the past and learned a lot, would certainly appreciate any pointers as to edits, speed of edits in songs etc, and also any other tips to make this my best ever production:>) The show runs for 2 hours, one camera was dead centre on the balcony and one to the left of the stage for close ups etc. Both cameras were Sony mini DV and the entire thing was shot in 16:9
Little bit of background, im in the UK, have messed about with vegas for 12 months, never rreally got deep into it , more just edits and stuff.
Should i include anything special? slow mo, effects etc??
any set way to do credits at the end begining etc.
like i said, any help would be great;y appreciated.

Well... that's completely up to YOU. What do YOU feel fits the project? Why do questions like this bother me so much?
Remember something-- using special effects for no particular reason is BS. It will make your video look cheap & ammetuerish. It's like an audio mix... the project will dictate its own needs & what fits (have I hit that point hard enough?).

Seriously. I'd be hard pressed to find anyone that disagrees, I imagine.

Well done Simon, I hvae heard of Marrilion, still going eh.. The cuts etc will depend on the Song the mood etc, one thing that comes with practice and a bit of an art really.

I have done two camera work on VV3 and it is quite easy and a breeze... I have tutorial if required.

first of all, how long is your project?
one song? 1 hour? 2 hours?
you need shots of the crowd---clapping, dancing etc.--interviews if possible
who's is your favorite band member etc?
i think so and so i really cute...that sort of thing
you need close ups of the musicians
you should be on stage sometimes!!
close up of the drummer etc
also, i love a shot from behind the band--with the audience singing etc.
i disagree with david kuznicki on one point---i love special fx and everyone i know loves them too--but i don't know to many people--hehe
especially kids!!!
and they are the ones buying the records-i presume
strobing fx, emboss, etc are the ones i love
i know professionals hate transitions etc, they think it looks cheap--
i have learned a ton from this forum, but i disagree on special fx
whenever i show my videos--i've done 4 videos for bands--they love the specials fx and slo motion
i always put it in---because they love it
i have only done music videos---
anyway, i hope it goes great---i am sure many people will disagree with me---but i am only passing on what i like ---
i love smoke----lights----etc in the videos
so make sure you get some cool shots of the lead singers in smoke

Sorry should have been a bit clearer in my first post.
I didnt actually film the gig, which makes it slightly harder, although the 2 guys that did knew what they were doing etc
Ive spend 6 hours on it today and done the first 2 songs(approx 14 minutes), the first was a slow one so used mainly fade transsistions, the second was a faster one so used quick cuts.
The whole show is 2 hours long, ive always liked slow mo in stuff if used at the right time, so may give that a shot in some of the tracks,
If anyone has some webspace, ide love to be able to put a couple of clips up in maybe real player or something just to get few people reactions
